Adventure Harbor Tours - What Charleston Visitors AND Locals Are Doing

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 at 8:18am. 64 Views, 0 Comments.

If you've lived in Charleston for long, you know that Morris Island is just another great Charleston experience.  This island is inaccessible by car, so you'll either have to take a boat to get there, or parachute out of a plane.  If parachuting isn't for you, then let me suggest Adventure Harbor Tours.

This is a good friend of mine's local business where he takes folks, families, you name it- to Morris Island which is located near Ft. Sumter and on the Charleston Harbor.  This is an exclusive stretch of beach that is mostly very quiet, and if you get there in the morning- you'll get first pick of all the shells.

What makes this adventure so intriguing are the explorations that Howard creates.  Howard has lived here all of his life, so he'll be able to take…

A Few Popular Mt. Pleasant Neighborhoods

I'On, a Mount Pleasant CommunityMount Pleasant continues to be one of the most popular areas surrounding Charleston. First of all, the location is ideal, bordering Downtown Historic Charleston, as well as Isle of Palms and Sullivans Island beaches. Second, it is one of the newly expanded areas surrounding Charleston that has seen much growth since the 90's. Most of the neighborhoods are planned communities with intelligent design, parks, golf courses, swimming pools, tennis, and plenty of other amenities. A few of the neighborhoods in Mount Pleasant even have their own schools and gyms. I'd like to expand on some of the more popular neighborhoods that a lot of buyers are enjoying:

Park West - This is the largest neighborhood in Mt. Pleasant. It is a…

Charleston Named 'Top US City'

Charleston, SC was named the 2011 'Top US City' by readers of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine recently.  Charleston came in at #2 last year.

The award was presented Monday evening at the magazine's Reader's Choice Awards in New York with Charleston native and comedian Stephen Colbert awarding the honor to local tourism officials.

Colbert said Charleston is the most beautiful city he has ever seen and joked that, as a child, he picked up pocket change pointing out the house in Charleston where Rhett Butler grew up.

Charleston has been on the magazine's Top 10 list since 1993.

Has the Local Increase in Cruise Ships Turned Off Buyers?

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011 at 12:40pm. 491 Views, 0 Comments.

Cruise Ship in Charleston, SCI have seen an increased presence of cruise ships on the Charleston Peninsula lately and wanted to share an article I found in the Post and Courier.  This was written by a local Realtor here in Charleston, and I wanted to share their viewpoint on the matter.

You've all heard the saying, "Change is inevitable; growth is optional".  I know that this increase in cruise ships will help the local economy downtown.  But at what point are we slowly chipping away at the character of the Peninsula?  There seem to be valid arguments from both sides, but I know where I stand on the issue.  Standards and/or regulation is key.

Old Charleston Map from 1872Many people who consider Charleston, South Carolina as a retirement destination or a possible move with a job transfer sometimes feel overwhelmed with the number of options available.  Each area that surrounds Charleston has its own unique character, charm, and feel about it.  I am excluding the beaches this go-around, but I’d like to briefly explain some of the areas that surround Charleston, in hopes that it might make it a little easier for those from out of state:

Charleston Peninsula- This is obviously the anchor for Charleston.  The historic draw of the city, the culture and world-class restaurants, and the “Old South” way of living is still evident here.  People from all over the country seek this spot as a perfect destination, close to the beaches…

New Park Planned on Folly Beach

Thursday, March 11th, 2010 at 7:48am. 385 Views, 0 Comments.

A new park is planned for Folly Beach.  The county Park and Recreation Commission intends on buying the Front Beach Inn and four other properties at East Arctic Avenue and East 2nd Street.  All of the 5 properties add up to about 1 acre.  For those of you that are not sure about the location, it’s just over from the pier and the large Holiday Inn.

The plan for the park is create a park facility with restrooms, showers, and a playground.  The goal was to create something similar to the layout at Isle of Palms County Park.

Some of the locals have strong opinions about how this came about.  I believe that it will positively affect the Folly Beach real estate market.  A view of the park instead of another high-rise hotel on front beach suits me just fine.  Plus,…
