A Neat History of Isle of Palms

The Isle of Palms is a city in Charleston County, South Carolina. It is located on a barrier island east of Charleston. The island was originally inhabited by the indigenous Seewee people, but it was later settled by Europeans in the early 18th century.

In 1696, a group of English settlers from Barbados established a plantation on the island and began growing indigo, rice, and other crops. The plantation was named "Isle of Palms" for the many palm trees that grew on the island. Over the years, the island continued to be used for agriculture and was also used as a summer retreat for wealthy Charleston residents.

In the 20th century, the island began to develop as a resort destination. The first hotel was built on the island in 1901, and more hotels and other tourist attractions followed. Today, the Isle of Palms is a popular vacation spot known for its beautiful beaches and recreational opportunities.
