Sullivans Island, SC Real Estate: Entrance to Charleston Harbor

Sullivan's Island is home to Fort Moultrie, site of a famous defense during the Revolutionary War, where the soft palmetto wood of the fort absorbed the bombardment of the British cannons. The event is remembered every year on June 28, which is known as Carolina Day. The Charleston Light is another famous structure, built in the early 1960s to replace the old lighthouse on Morris Island. There have been many famous denizens of Sullivan's Island, including Edgar Allan Poe, and E. Lee Spence.

While steeped in history, Sullivan's Island homes are hardly relics of a bygone age. These homes offer all the amenities that could be wished for, as well as easy access to the charms of beach town life. Homes in Sullivan's Island are currently some of the hottest real estate in the Charleston area and, as such, carry with them a promise of growing value.

The people of Sullivan's Island are friendly and open to those who want to share their island lifestyle. There are no commercial operations, such as hotels or big box stores here. That's why condos are so hard to come by. Golf carts are a more common mode of transportation than cars. Even though Charleston is only 10 miles away, sometimes it's hard to remember that the big city is right next door.

As the island seems to get smaller and smaller (thankfully), vacant lots are more difficult to come by. While houses typically take longer to sell than vacant land does, if something comes on the market, you had better snatch it up fast!
