West Ashley, SC Neighborhoods & Communities

There are a number of varying styles and types of neighborhoods in West Ashley.  There are the outer older neighborhoods in the 100-250K price range- mostly brick ranch style homes, in mature neighborhoods, that are affordable and have nice sized lots (with no covenants and restrictions).  There are also newer neighborhoods with new construction on smaller lots, less trees in the neighborhood (typically), having more families and retirees, and having an HOA (Homeowners Assoc.) and/or Covenants & Restrictions.

Also available are plenty of waterfront communities.  There are plenty of neighborhoods in West Ashley that are on deepwater, tidal creek, and lake front.  These neighborhoods are mostly mature, since the area was first settled in the 1600’s, and most of the neighborhoods that surround water have already been built.  Edgewater Park and The Crescent are great examples of these.

Another type of West Ashley neighborhood are the ones close to downtown, Charleston.  These are typically older homes built in the 40’s, 50’s, or earlier.  These have a great location to downtown, and are also the closest to the beaches.  Examples of these types of neighborhoods are Byrnes Down, Windermere, and South Windermere.
