Charleston Real Estate: A brief History of Charleston Style Homes
A "Charleston-style" house is ideal for the humid climate that we have here. The "one room wide" construction offered residents cross-ventilation in the days before Central Air. These two-story "piazzas" provide some cool shade in the heat of the day. The piazzas are also the location of the front door, which keeps the entrance hall more private, being centered on the side of the home. Many of these types of homes in the downtown, Charleston location still are prevalent today. Many of the older constructed homes as well as the newly constructed homes look magnificent architecturally, while still maintaining their effectiveness today.
Charleston real estate investors will be interested to know that the city is experiencing record sale, tax and interest rate lows, which make this a great time to invest in Charleston property. The current trend of "baby-boomers" moving into the area indicates that retiree-friendly real estate is going to be in demand for some time.
