Ansonborough, Historic Charleston SC Real Estate

Ansonborough is located on the Charleston Peninsula just south of Calhoun Street, and along the middle-eastern side of the peninsula (the Mount Pleasant Harbor side).  It is deemed, "Charleston's oldest suburb".  It is regarded as a very desirable location, close to Market Street, Marion Square, the restaurants, shops, and art galleries- yet just north a few streets from the tourist areas, so it's nice and quiet.

Most of the homes here were constructed in the late 1700's or 1800's.  Some of the homes carry a lot of rich history.  The William C. McElheran house, for example, was purchased for the construction of gun carriages for the confederacy.  Many of the piazzas of these homes offer cooler breezes in the summer off of the Charleston Harbor, due to this neighborhood's location.
