South Carolina housing officials have $40 million to help teachers and first responders buy a home! The State Housing Finance and Development Authority announced that this program will offer down payment assistance and low interest mortgages to teachers, firefighters, police and correctional officers and EMS workers who meet income criteria.
Customers will apply for the loans just like they would any home mortgage, but the money for the loans will come from bonds the housing agency has sold.
Maximum income levels for borrowers vary depending on where a person lives and the number of people living in the home.
Police Officers - Borrower must be a full-time police officer with state or local government agency including correctional officers with the South Carolina State Dept. of Corrections.
Fire Fighters and EMS – borrower must be full-time or volunteer fire fighter or EMS with a state or local government agency.
Teachers – Borrower must have a South Carolina Teachers Certification and be employed as a classroom teacher or have a contract to receive a paycheck and begin teaching within 60 days of closing on the home.
