Follow the yellow brick road to Charleston!

So if you are not from Charleston, South Carolina and are making a move to this wonderful city- how do you navigate the subtle but sometimes drastic differences between the areas surrounding Charleston? Because each and every area within Charleston has its own vibe. Its own personality, and subculture.

Most people moving to Charleston have an idea of what they’re looking for.  Whether they’ve created this idea/potential reality over the span of a number of years, or whether they’ve gone back to their roots and would like to live in something similar to their childhood home- we all have our own ideas of a perfect place to live.

But how are you expected to move to a city where you don’t know anyone, and don’t know the difference between living in Mount Pleasant vs. James Island for example?  Or the difference between Dunes West and I’On? Well, it appears you’ve landed here somehow- so it looks like you’re doing your research online. That’s certainly a great place to get information. However, you know that EVERYone has an opinion and one person could LOVE a neighborhood, while another could feel totally different.

I think the best idea would be to find someone that has lived in Charleston for a long time (or even a native)- and also find someone from Charleston that has just moved here. That’s the best scenario. You have someone that has just moved here- and say they have lived here a year.  They can tell you all about the adjustments they’ve had to make- and certain perceptions they’ve had of different areas in Charleston, and things that they sure wished they had known a year ago.

And then you have someone that has lived here their entire life, and can tell you the ins and outs of every neighborhood, every street. This is where I’m jumping up and down raising my hand. Having gone to grade school here, high school downtown at Bishop England, college down the street, and practically have lived in every area of Charleston. I'm your Charleston Realtor!

If you have any questions at all about the different personalities each neighborhood has- please give me a call or send me an email.  I LOVE THIS CITY. This is my home. I’ve lived here almost all of my life and there’s nothing I love more than to share with someone what this beautiful, wonderful city has to offer.
