charleston_streetIf you weren’t already aware, Charleston, SC is one of the best cities in the U.S.  I have been boasting about this for years, but now I have some facts from some of the readers from various magazines to back it up.

Travel & Leisure Magazine did a survey on “Americas Favorite Cities for 2008” and Charleston, SC came in #1 as “America’s Friendliest People” for 2008.  Charleston received second place for noteworthy neighborhoods, vintage stores, flea markets, and peace and quiet.  We received #2 for “Home Design”, being beat-out by Chicago.

Southern Living Magazine rated Charleston #1 as the “Best Southern City” for '08, beating out other areas such as: Atlanta GA, Nashville TN, and Austin TX.  Downtown King Street got 2nd place for “Best Neighborhood for Shopping”, and we were in the top 10 for “Best Family Destination”.  What was number 1?  You guessed it, Disney World in Florida.

Inc.com ranks Charleston #6 for “The Top 10 Mid-size Cities for Doing Business” for 2008.

Forbes.com rated Charleston as having one of the “Top 25 Strongest Housing Markets” in 2008.  This is great news for Charleston SC real estate, as it has been predicted to get better in the third quarter of ’09.

The Economist publication shows the job growth for Charleston doubling that of the national average for 2008.  The numbers of scientists, architects, and engineers grew by 52% while the national average fell 3%.

Traveller Magazine ranked Charleston as the #2 city in the U.S. for 2008, behind #1 San Francisco.  The results were based upon a reader poll.  San Fran has won 16 years in a row!

The Milken Institute
does studies on job growth and retention for American cities and Charleston came in at #10 for “Best Performing Cities of 2008”.

National Geographic’s Adventure rated Charleston, SC #2 for “Next Great Adventure Towns”.

American Style Magazine
rates Charleston #6 in the Country for “Top 25 Arts Destinations”.

So as you can see, not only do I think this city is something special- evidently others do as well.  If you are thinking of purchasing a home or relocating to the Charleston area, I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our wonderful city.  Call me any time.  –Mike Ciucci (843) 452-0686 Posted by Mike Ciucci on

"Forbes.com rated Charleston as having one of the “Top 25 Strongest Housing Markets” in 2008." I think that's because whether you are looking for a lively urban experience, the luxury of a small town, or the relaxing feel of a beach house, there is a place for everyone in the Lowcountry.

How interesting that Charleston has a strong scientific community...as per The Economist reference. I guess with the C of C and the Aquarium there is a huge demand for marine biologists and professors interesting in being near the coast. There is a strong support for 'the arts' in Charleston as well. What a great city!
