Where Are the Best Areas to Live in Mount Pleasant?
Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Such a great place to live! It borders historic downtown Charleston, while also bordering Isle of Palms and Sullivans Island beaches. As one of the first locations settled outside of downtown, this location has one of (if not THE) largest draws of any community in Charleston. I've personally seen Mount Pleasant grow tremendously over the decades, and while 'change is inevitable, growth is optional', I've loved the growth that Mount Pleasant has experienced. The last census says that Mount Pleasant's population is right around 92,000. Which is the 4th largest city in the state of South Carolina.
But with such a large surface area and population, how does one find the best location to live? Schools, neighborhood, style of living, and proximity to the things YOU enjoy? Well, that's quite a task to deliver in a blog post, but what I CAN do is point you in the right direction to where you need to be looking.
Mount Pleasant Neighborhoods
First, you may want to look into the different Mount Pleasant Neighborhoods. This will show you a list of the most popular neighborhoods and communities in all of Mount Pleasant. I've been quite careful and through over the years to continually add all of the neighborhoods in Mount Pleasant, and also to give you my opinion on the 'vibe' and any other features or desirability factors that a neighborhood might have. Take a look at the Mount Pleasant Communities, and if you have any particular questions about any neighborhood, call me! I've lived and worked in Mount Pleasant over the years, and am happy to share tons of information about each neighborhood.
Waterfront Properties
With so many tidal creeks and also being on the Charleston Harbor- I can't forgo talking about the endless opportunities to showcase the many waterfront communities in Mount Pleasant. For those that can afford marshfront properties, there are many that take advantage of NOT having a neighbor behind them, while enjoying the white egrets, ibis, blue herons, and even deer that feed on the crustaceans in the marsh. Next on the list are tidal creeks. If you love stand-up paddleboarding (SUP's), cayaking, or even getting a small skiff (boat) behind your house, then this is a favorite! It's priced right between a marshfront home, and a deepwater home. Tidal creeks give you plenty of different views between high and low tides, as well as giving you natural sights, sounds, and smells of the salt in the air! Even the popping sound of mantis shrimp popping snail shells at low tide! And finally, deepwater homes in Mount Pleasant. These are the prized homesites either on the Charleston Harbor, on Shem Creek, or on many of the deeper portions along the many tidal creeks. Of course the largest draw for this type of property is the ability to have your own boat in your back yard. Either tied to a dock, or on a boat lift, this allows for the best views in all of Charleston. Awesome boat cruises in the evenings after work, without the hassle of boat ramps. I don't know a better situation to explore Charleston!
Condos in Mount Pleasant
Many folks opt for the 'easy living' in a condo. No more yard maintenance in the summers of August (the humidity is just fine/great almost palatable here) No extensive homeowner repairs to a large 2 story house. Condos are easy! Some folks are at a point in their lives where they'd rather spend their time with others, than on maintenance duties. This is the REAL way to explore Mount Pleasant/Charleston and have the time for it. There are MULTIPLE options to find a condo in Mount Pleasant, you just have to know where to look. And with our Condos in Mount Pleasant page, you can see if you'd like a higher-priced condo at the base of the Ravenel Bridge (2 mins to downtown), or if you'd like one closer to the heart of Mount Pleasant for the shops, restaurants, and more affordable (15 mins to downtown). Search Mount Pleasant Condos.
New Construction in Mount Pleasant
Many folks opt to buy a new home in Mount Pleasant. I mean, who doesn't want a new home that's NEVER been lived in? There are literally tons of new construction options in Mount Pleasant at the time of this writing. New neighborhoods being churned out, with the outer areas of Mount Pleasant continually sprawling outwards, with new homes. Good news is, if you get in early enough- with some of these builders you can choose different styles of flooring, countertops, cabinets, etc. to reflect your own style and tastes. I have a lot of custom builders that we work with as well, so that's also an option if you truly want a custom build with an architect. But this is a great place to start if you want a new home once you nail down the area that you like.
But in all sincerity, give me a call if you'd like to chat and get a local's perspective. I grew up running all over Mount Pleasant, and also worked on Shem Creek during high school and college, and as a realtor today. And still love Mount Pleasant just as much today. It truly is paradise!
