It’s that time of year again to start heading out to the beaches.  We have some of the nicest beaches around, in Charleston, SC, and with the weather getting warmer and warmer, a dip in the ocean might be the perfect solution.  Whether you’re a younger couple looking to meet friends at the beach, an older couple looking to find a nice quiet spot alone to read, or if you’re bringing the kids to play in the sand and ocean- every beach here in Charleston has something for you.

We mainly have 3 beaches that are closest to Charleston.  Isle of Palms, Sullivans Island, and Folly Beach.  I’d like to tell you a little bit about each of them, and give you my synopsis on the kind of people that are attracted to each beach.

If you weren’t already aware, Charleston, SC is one of the best cities in the U.S.  I have been boasting about this for years, but now I have some facts from some of the readers from various magazines to back it up.

Travel & Leisure Magazine did a survey on “Americas Favorite Cities for 2008” and Charleston, SC came in #1 as “America’s Friendliest People” for 2008.  Charleston received second place for noteworthy neighborhoods, vintage stores, flea markets, and peace and quiet.  We received #2 for “Home Design”, being beat-out by Chicago.

When will the Charleston real estate market "hit bottom"?  How much further down do we have to go until home prices begin to stabilize?  Well, no one really knows for sure but CNNmoney.com have published their analysis of the real estate market here in Charleston.  I wanted to share with you some interesting information I've found from it:

• Out of the nation's 100 largest metro areas, Charleston, SC ranks 89.
• The population for the city of Charleston is 603,178.
• Home prices peaked in the first quarter of '07.
• The forecast for home prices through March of 2010 (from now) shows being down 0.1%.  I find this hard to believe, as I believe the number to be more than that.  However, this forecast is great news for our local Charleston market.  Let's hope

With all the talk about the economy, the weakening dollar, and home values plummeting, you’d think the sky is falling.  Never mind that our local real estate market here in Charleston is on the rise!  Home sales are up for existing homes, as well as new construction in Charleston.  Market activity has increased.  Sales have increased.  I have been very busy lately, and my entire office is excited.  It’s infectious!
